Poor storage practices can ruin even the best of wines. Here are a few guidelines to ensure proper storage of your bottles.
Unlike some whites or rosés that need not age beyond 2 years, most red wines will age well for 5 or more years.
The factors to consider for proper wine storage are the following:
Position: Keep the bottle in a horizontal position to ensure the cork remains moist. If the cork dries out, air can penetrate the bottle and result in quick oxidation of the wine.
Temperature: Ideally between 8 and 10°C. Excessive cold can slower the aging process while excessive heat accelerates it.
Light: Bright light can trigger photochemical processes, so plan to store your wine in a darker location.
