The majesty of the main mountain cord of the world, The Andes Mountain, harbors a unique geography, which provides ideal conditions for several strains of grape to grow to its fullness.
Pure water irrigates the valleys, the sun moves delicately across the vineyards which grow in a harmonic setting of light, temperature, and fertility: the "terroir” a term which the French use to denominate the environment in which each type of grape develops.
Our grapes come from three select locations on the Maipo Valley:
1. Pirque
Coordinates: S 33°40’18.7’’ W 70°32’24.1’’
Altitude: 687 meters above sea level.
Climate: Semi-arid Mediterranean with strong temperature oscillations between day and night.
Soil: Colluvial–alluvial of glacial-fluvial-volcanic origin due to the proximity to the Andes. Deep, rocky soil.
Varieties: Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet Sauvignon.
2. Maria Pinto
Coordinates: S 33°31’07.7’’ W 71°03’13.2’’
Altitude: 188 masl.
Climate: Temperate Mediterranean with a prolonged dry season.
Soil: Granite origin with sandy textures and low natural fertility. Very evolved, quartz-rich and with good drainage.
Varieties: Cabernet Sauvignon, Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet Franc, Merlot.
3. Melipilla
Coordinates: S 33°51’33.6’’ W 71°15’30.8’’
Altitude: 133 masl.
Climate: Sub–humid Mediterranean, with summer highs greater than 30ºC.
Soil: Two types may be distinguished:
Slope piedmont with 12% incline featuring thin, granite, angular rock and very low water retention.
Alluvial plains with high clay content that provide ideal conditions for good moisture retention which lead to good maturation.
Varieties: Syrah, Malbec, Petit Verdot, Carmenère. |
